To implement the spirit of the 10th Plenary Session of the 12th Municipal Party Committee, further improve the competence and servicing capacity of our city's translators, and help build a high-level open-up city, on the morning of August 20, Zibo Foreign Affairs Office invited Suo Ruonan and Zhang Yanheng, principal English translators from the Translation Center of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shandong Provincial Government, to hold translation training lectures in Zibo, for which full-time translators of Shandong QUSON Translation and Interpretation Service Co., Ltd. were also invited.
Despite the cool rain outside, and atmosphere in the lecture room is exceptionally animated. Leadership of Zibo Foreign Affairs Office, translators from all districts, counties, functional domains, departments directly under the municipal government, universities and relevant enterprises as well as ten excellent on-boarding college students of Zibo Foreign Affairs Office attended for instruction.
Suo and Zhang are full-time English interpreters of Shandong Foreign Affairs Office. Both of them have obtained the CATTI Level-1 Interpretation Certificate. They have participated in thousands of foreign affairs activities of the province and gained rich theoretical and practical experience thereof. They gave lectures on the improvement of English translation level, foreign translation service and other aspects respectively. With the theme of "Discussion on Foreign Affairs Translation", Suo closely combined with the four basic principles (in 16 Chinese characters) in foreign affairs translation: "know well of the expertise, take the firm stand, learn the policies by heart, and strictly abide by disciplines", introduced the basic qualities of listening ability, on-site notes and knowledge reserve in interpretation practice, emphasized the importance of "training basic skills hard", and illustrated the key roles of translation accuracy, logical analysis ability, concise narration, flexibility and translation etiquette in translation practice with vivid cases. Zhang, from the perspective of translation preparation and training methods, focused on the preparation of professional terms and background information of relevant industries before taking up the task of interpretation, led attendees to carry out practical training, and exchange Q & A on related interpretation topics.
This training benefited QUSON translators quite a lot, especially in expanding their interpretation skills. They all deeply realized the close relationship between translation ability and personal comprehensive quality, obtained a deeper understanding of the essence of foreign affairs translation service, and established more constructive translation-learning system to lay solid foundations for the improvement of translation service level in the future.
